나를 비추고 너를 담는다

바다는 나를 보여주는 거울이자 때로는 세상을 비춰주는 창이다. 이 프로젝트는 오랫동안 촬영한 제주의 바다와 하늘, 밤바다의 상이 비추며 반영된 빛을 겹쳐 새롭게 재구성 하였다. 하늘과 땅을 담은 바다는 빛을 통해 시시각각 다양한 색으로 보여진다. 머금었지만 흔들리며 그것들은 더 많은 삶의 변화를 표현하듯 화려해진다. 변화무쌍한 바다는 알 수 없는 그 깊이와 크기 만큼이나 어지런 세상을 좀 더 유연하게 받아들이게 되고 소소한 것에도 의미를 부여하며 감사하게 살아가는 지혜를 알려준다. 바람과 부딪치며 파도를 만들고 파도가 끝난 뒤 떠있는 기름찌꺼기와 오염물질은 이방인이 되어 찾아온다. 하지만 그것조차 분명 충분한 그럴 만한 이유가 있을 거라 말해준다. 그리고 그 힘듦을 뱉어내지 않고 치유의 손길을 내밀며 동행한다. 바다는 다름을 인정하고 배려하며 어우러져 함께 동행하는 이를 외롭지 않게 해주고 함께 동행하는 세상을 알려준다

My reflection on the sea that holds you

The sea is not only my looking glass but also a window to the world. I am trying to reformulate sea and sky of the Jeju island during the day and at night with my long term project. The sea, which the sky and land reflect off, is seen in various colors through the light every moment. It gets very colorful as if to express more life changes. The ever-changing sea becomes flexible for accepting a world as dizzy as its unknown depth, and gives paltry things meanings to teach how to live gratefully. Sea makes waves against the wind. The floating oil sludge and pollutants come back as strangers after the waves settle down. But it even says that it is worth and keeps us company with a healing touch in bad times. The sea accept the differences and take care the companion not to make feel lonely while it shows the world.

숲의 안부를 묻는다

사람들은 힘들거나 상처를 받으면 일상에서 탈출하여 자연으로 간다. 평온함과 쉼을 찾아 사람들은 복잡한 도시에서 떠나 시야를 자연으로 돌린다. 사람들은 대자연에서 순수, 영원, 풍요로움과 포용을 느낀다. 나도 예외는 아니다. 아프고 지쳐 있을 때 나는 내 영혼과 마음을 치유할 무언가의 탈출구가 필요했다. 자연은 언제나 아무것도 묻지 않은 채 나를 반겨주었고 안아 주었다. 그러면서 차츰차츰 나 자신이 회복되는 것을 느꼈다. 하지만, 카메라 렌즈를 통해서 자연을 가까이 들여다보았을 때 보기에 완벽해 보이는 자연도 인간으로부터 받은 상처로 아파하고 눈물 흘리며 때론 한숨짓는다는 것이다. 자연과 인간은 서로에게 영향을 주며 함께 가는 동행자이다.괜한 욕심은 내려놓고 자연과 함께 서로의 안부를 묻고 어우러져 살아야 제일임을 깨닫는다.

이제는 자연의 안부를 묻는다.
“너는 어때? 잘 지내지?”

이 프로젝트는 오래도록 촬영한 제주의 숲 (나무와 꽃)과 녹슨 철 사진, 금이 간 벽 사진을 겹쳐 새롭게 재구성 하였다. 세월이 흐르고 외부의 환경에서 받은 영향으로 변질되어 녹슬고 갈라진 부분을 숲의 상처로 표현한 것이다. 멀리서 숲을 볼 수는 있지만 들여다 보면 나무의 고통이나 희망을 볼 수 있다.

Look deeper into it

When people have a hard time, go to nature to escape their everyday lives. In search of peace and relaxation, people turn their sights to nature to leave the complex urban spaces. We feel purity, eternity, abundance and tolerance in Mother Nature. However, a closer look at nature through the camera lens. Nature, which seems perfectly, also suffers from wounds caused by humans and sometimes sighs in tears. Nature and humanity are companions that affect each other.

It is time to ask after Mother Nature.
“How are you doing these days?”

The project is to recreate by superimposing pictures of forests, rusty iron and cracked walls in Jeju island. It is an expression of rithered cracks due to the passage of time and the effects of environment as wounds of the forest. You can only see the forest from the distance, but the pain and hope of each tree would appear from up close.
